2023 International
Teacher-Student Research Competition
on the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Hosted by the International Journal of Youth-Led Research, the 2023 International Teacher-Student Research Competition on the UN SDGs is an opportunity for secondary school teachers and their students to collaborate on any topic that falls under one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the UN to “transform the world.” We welcome all eligible teachers to register with their students of choice. Teams will be offered guidance in conducting their own research intended for publication, but have full creative control from topic to design. There are no fees associated with this competition.

Purpose

- Empowering secondary school teachers and students around the world,

- Fostering international collaboration through the SDGs,

- Providing an opportunity towards solving real world problems,

- Bringing project based learning to life.

Eligibility

- Secondary school (defined as any school that offers university-preparatory or equivalent classes) teachers of any subject are welcome to participate.

- Teachers of all nations are welcome to participate.

- There is no age requirement for the teachers. - Student researchers chosen by the teacher must be under 21 years of age to participate. - There is no age requirement for the teachers. - Student researchers chosen by the teacher must be under 21 years of age.

Rules

- The chosen research topic must fall under an UN Sustainable Development Goal.

- Each research team must have one teacher and a minimum of one student.

- The final paper must be written in English.

Timeline

- Application must be submitted by April 15th, 2023

- Competition official starting date is May 1st, 2023

- Research proposal must be submitted by May 31st, 2023

- Paper must be submitted by August 31st, 2023

- Competition results will be released by September 15th, 2023

Submission Guidelines

- Registration is required before entering the competition.

- Final submission must be in the form of a research paper.

- Must use the APA format.

- Must be one of the three research designs: (1) systematic literature review, (2) empirical study using survey or questionnaire, and (3) empirical study using secondary data.

Judging Guidelines

Submissions will be judged on
-If it is well aligned with the SDG of choice,
-if the study is well-supported according to the scientific method,
- The quality of academic writing.
Systematic literature reviews will be judged separately from empirical studies; Empirical studies using surveys/questionnaires and empirical studies extracting data from database will be judged separately...

Prizes

- Winners will be published in the International Journal of Youth-Led Research, the world’s first peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes youth-led research on the sustainable development goals.

- Engaged participants will receive an official Sustainability Researcher Certificate.

- Other performance based individual and team award categories.
